The name of my site Animals Shelter Me is my way of saying "my animals help keep me sane". Keeping sane in the midst of our crazy world can sometimes be difficult, but coming home for pet lovers can be a place of peace and tranquility.

Peace and tranquility in our comfort zone and place of security....HOME SWEET HOME, but unfortunately so many animals in the shelter and elsewhere, do not have the luxury of a place to call home. Stray dogs and cats have cold concrete floors for beds, dirty puddles on the street for drinking water and others are wandering the streets hoping to find a scrap of food.

Until recently I did not realize that there is presently a crisis in our pet population, or should I say pet over-population.

According to the HSUS, "four million cats and dogs—about one every eight seconds—are put down in U.S. shelters each year."

What suddenly turned my light bulb on? Well, it was a brutally cold and snowy afternoon in January 2010. I saw an emaciated and freezing dog walking through a snow storm.....Read More....... My heart broke for this pathetically lonely, sad and terrified dog......This day changed TWO LIVES ~ Mine and a dog who I adopted and named Lewis.

It changed my life because I took "Lewis" into my home that brutally cold afternoon. I later adopted him, but as I was going through the process of adopting Lewis I saw the faces of sad, pathetic and lonely dogs in cages just begging to come home with me. I heard the sound of meowing echoing through the halls because there were so many kittens and cats in cages, their little paws trying to touch me as I waited at the desk for the paperwork to be done. My heart was breaking and I could not imagine why so many pets did not have homes.

I came home that day with a dog who has a beautiful soul and who now has a place to call HOME SWEET HOME. I also came home that day and went right on my computer, searching for reasons as to why there are so many homeless animals. I started bookmarking sites, making lists on what I could do to change the life of even one animal and I told my friends how they could help as well. My list was getting bigger and bigger and I figured if my friends wanted to help, maybe, just maybe, there were other animal lovers out there who might want to help as well.

TA DA.....THUS MY WEBSITE BEGAN.........

I made this site with the intention of not having to reading a lot of "stuff." I do not have time in my life to sit on a computer and read paragraphs of where, what, why and when so I tried to make each page on HOW TO HELP ANIMALS quick and easy. Go to the site page of your choice, read what you can do to help and then click ~ your done.....

I am constantly on the computer updating ANYTHING I can find. For example I am constantly finding new ways to help shelter dogs and cats, new dates for adoption events, there are spay and neutering facilities that are sponsoring FREE surgeries, help shut down puppy mills......etc.....COME ON IN!!!
